Instructions: Find a place free of the distractions of noise, smell, or interruptions. Sit in an upright, relaxed position on a chair or floor cushion. Take a few big breaths, inhaling and exhaling slowly and as deeply as you can. Then resume normal breathing and begin the exercise. After completing each of the following two exercises, add up your scores to determine your readiness to follow the path to meaningful work. If you decide you are ready, you may enroll right away in The Path to Meaningful Work home study program or make a plan to strengthen those areas of your life that need attention first. Look back at this exercise again later to see if your feelings have changed or become stronger.

Print this exercise out before you begin. Read each statement below and place a check mark in the box on the print out that most closely agrees with how you feel right now.

1. I don't give up easily. I know that big changes usually take time and that every long path has obstacles. Even when I'm tired and discouraged, I am able to muster the discipline to keep going toward my goals.
